HISTORY AND TRAJECTORY OF THE HOTEL RESTAURANTE TERRAZA CARMONA

It has been 70 years since in 1947 TERRAZA CARMONA began to service their first customers and friends, from the hands of Ginés Carmona and Beatriz Gallardo, on the terrace of their summer cinema where they held open-air dances and other open air events (hence the name TERRAZA CARMONA), famous national and international artists have won it fame and prestige.

Antonio Carmona Gallardo, takes charge of the business from a young age and in 1980 he inaugurated, together with his wife Manola, a hotel on the same premises. It began as a two-star hotel, and in 1991 it underwent a renovation and added new and larger function rooms and guest rooms (38) and it ascended to a three-star establishment.

Respect to tradition, quality and innovation is their hallmark. Traditional cuisine made with fresh market ingredients are their daily essentials. Maintaining the ‘Eternal flame’ of their forefathers their reason for being. This is why today the third generation of the Carmona Family dedicates its life to this cause and ensuring that their clients receive a humble, respectful and polite experience. Terraza Carmona has championed the standard of the Almeria cuisine half way round the world: Tokyo, Mexico, Brussels, Amsterdam, Berlin, to mention a few and extensively throughout Spain. It is continually invited, by official institutions and reputable organisations, to show off the rich and varied Almeria gastronomy.

Likewise, its “El Toro Bravo en la cocina” (‘Fierce Bull’ in the kitchen) Gastronomic Days, now on its XXII edition, who witnesses the constant interest of the ‘National Pastime’ and ‘Spanish Cuisine’.

The restaurant has been recognised by the GUIA REPSOL with one sun since 2004.

Award-winners of the XXIII “PREMIO ALIMENTOS DE ESPAÑA A LA RESTAURACIÓN” in 2010, and ‘Premio Nacional de Turismo de Andalucía’, ‘Premio Nacional al Merito Hotelero’, ‘Embajador Permanente de la Ciudad de Vera’, ‘Veratense del año’, among others. Ginés, José, Antonio, Beatriz, Manola, Alejandro and Javier lead the different departments of the business today and make it possible for the Traditional Almeria Cuisine to constantly evolve, (gurullos with rabbit, ajo coloráo, olla de trigo o col, guiso de pelotas, torticas de avio, pimentón, fritadas, cuajaderas, tarta borracha, bizcocho de dátiles, talvinas, etc.) fused on new techniques and unbeatable local produce from the market, so that these dishes can be prepared and served the way you deserve.
